Moni on varmaan törmännyt viime viikkoina somessa pyörineeseen Oatly-keskusteluun. Niille, jotka eivät tiedä mistä on kyse, tässä lyhyt tiivistys:
Jättimäinen sijoitusyhtiö Blackstone on ostanut osan Oatlysta. Blackstone on sijoittanut rahojaan useaan yhtiöön, joista yksi on ollut mukana edesauttamassa Amazonin sademetsien tuhoutumista. Lisäksi Blackstonen toimitusjohtaja on rahoittanut Donald Trumpin kampanjaa suurella rahasummalla.
Ihmiset ovat olleet huolissaan siitä, että Oatlyyn käytetyt rahat menevät nyt pahan sijoittajan taskuun ja vastuullista kaurajuomaa tuottanut yritys on myynyt sielunsa maailmaa tuhoavalle yritykselle. Näin mutkat suoraksi vedettynä siis, kuten moni on tuntunut tekevän.
Omasta mielestäni asiassa on kuitenkin useampi puoli. On totta, etteivät Blackstonen kaikki sijoituskohteet ole eettisemmästä päästä. Ihan rehellisesti sanoen, en usko yhdenkään ison sijoitusyhtiön valitsevan kaikkia kohteitaan vastuullisuuslasit päässä.
Täytyy kuitenkin muistaa, että sademetsiä tuhoavien yritysten rahat eivät ole samoja, mitä asiakas Oatlyn tuotteisiin pistää. Ne eivät monellakaan tapaa liity toisiinsa. Ainut yhdistävä tekijä on sama sijoitusyhtiö. Myöskään sijoitusyhtiön toimitusjohtajan rahat eivät ole Oatlyn rahoja, eikä toisinpäin.
Toki on tärkeää tutkia myös yrityksen taustoja. Oatlyn sijoittajana Blackstone saa myydyistä Oatlyn tuotteista jonkun prosenttiosuuden, ja rahoja voidaan käyttää taas seuraaviin yrityksiin ja nostaa toimitusjohtajan palkkaa. Tätä kautta rahat ovat yhteydessä toisiinsa. Blackstone olisi voinut kuitenkin Oatlyyn sijoittamansa summan käyttää johonkin täysin vastuuttomaan, ilmastoa tuhoavaan yritykseen (joita maapallolta valitettavasti löytyy), joka olisi paljon vahingollisempaa kuin Oatlyn ostaminen.
Moni kertoo somessa nyt boikotoivansa Oatlya ja valitsevansa mieluummin esimerkiksi suomalaisen Kaslinkin kaurajuoman kaupassa. Kaslinkin omistaja on Fazer, suomalainen yhtiö, joka tunnetaan erityisesti suklaastaan. Fazer on ilmoittanut olevansa lapsityövoimaa vastaan, mutta myöntänyt, että heidän suklaansa alkutuotanto saattaa tapahtua lapsityövoimalla. Toisin sanoen, joko se tapahtuu lapsityövoimaa käyttäen, tai sitten Fazer ei halua edes ottaa selvää suklaansa alkutuotannosta – molempi pahempi.
Postauksen tarkoitus ei ole mollata Kaslinkia ja nostaa Oatlya korkealle, vaan saada ajattelemaan monelta kantilta ennen tuomitsemista. Nämä asiat harvoin ovat mustavalkoisia, ja Oatly-boikotti saattaa suuressa kuvassa olla vahingollisempaa kuin ostamisen jatkaminen – tai sitten. Henkilökohtaisesti aion varmaan edelleen jatkaa eri kaurajuomamerkkien ostamista, myös näitä kahta aiemmin mainitsemaani. Ruotsiin muuttaessa paikallinen Oatly tulee varmasti löytämään tiensä ostoskoriin.
Summauksena: tutki, älä tuomitse. Äläkä jaa somessa kaikkea mitä vastaan tulee tutkimatta taustoja.
Miten olisi varmasti kotimainen vaihtoehto, Valion kauratuotteet?
Valion kauratuotteet ovat hyviä, Oddlygood päihittää maultaan monet muut merkit etenkin jogurteissa. Ostan niitä toisinaan, mutta periaatteessa en halua antaa rahojani yritykselle, jonka toimista suuri osa perustuu eläinperäisten tuotteiden tuottamiseen. Jos olisikin niin, että kauratuotteista tullut raha menee vain kauratuotteiden valmistukseen, olisi tilanne täydellinen, mutta nyt Valion kaurajuoman ostaessa saatan rahoittaa maidon tuottamista kauppoihin, mikä ei taas ole mielestäni hyvä juttu. Toisaalta, jos kukaan ei osta Valion kauratuotteista, ei niitä enää kohta valmisteta ollenkaan… Kuten sanottua, asia ei oo mustavalkoinen ja rehellisesti ihan täydellistä valintaa on vaikea tehdä. Myönnän, etten ole perehtynyt syvimmistä syviin kiemuroihin tässä, mutta oman tietämykseni varjolla valitsisin silti mieluummin Oatlyn kuin Valion kauratuotteen kaupasta. 🙂
Yritykset alkavat myydä osia, varojaan ja osinkoja silloin, kun eivät enää pärjää taloudellisesti. Olisitko valmis maksamaan Oatleyn tuotteista enemmän?.. Maitotuotteet ovat välttämättömiä monille lapsille ja nuorille, erikoisesti Suomessa, koska ne sisältävät kasvavalle elimistölle tärkeää D-vitamiinia ja kalsiumia… Näkökulmia voi olla monia.
Näinhän se on. Kyllä mä olisin valmis maksamaan Oatlysta vähän enemmän, en toki hurjaa hinnan nousua. Mä en tosin itse tuomitse Oatlya tästä askeleesta, ja olen viikottain ostanut heidän tuotteitaan edelleen.
Tuosta maitoasiasta oon täysin eri mieltä. Maito ei oo välttämättömyys, kalsiumia saa kyllä muualtakin. Nykyään sitä lisätään lähes kaikkiin kaurajuomiinkin. Toki erikseen lisäämisen järkevyyttä voi pohtia, mutta mun mielestä kaikki muu kauramaidossa ajaa silti sen luonnollisen d-vitamiinin yli, enkä maitoa voi kyllä suositella. Ei ole välttämätöntä terveydellisesti eikä varsinkaan ole eettisesti kestävää. 🙂
