Meidän ihana adoptiokissamme, Fredi, kotiutui meille toukokuun lopussa eli kolmisen viikkoa sitten. Nyt uuteen elämäntilanteeseen on totuteltu puolin ja toisin, ja Fredille kuuluu hyvää. Ajattelin hieman avata teille adoptioprosessia omasta näkökulmastani.
Meidän tiemme adoptioon
Harkitsimme vakavasti lemmikin ottamista loppuvuonna käydyn keskustelun jälkeen. Pohdimme kissan ja koiran välillä – toinen meistä kun on selvästi enemmän koiraihminen ja toinen kissaihminen. Mä halusin harkita koiraa pidempään, mutta kissalle olin näyttänyt vihreää valoa jo aiemmin. Todella eläinrakas poikaystäväni taas ihastui kyläpaikassa olleeseen kissaan niin, että päätimme alkaa tosissamme etsimään meille sopivaa yksilöä saatuamme vuokranantajalta luvan kissaan.
Molemmille oli alusta asti selvää, että kissa otetaan rescuena eli emme halua pentua kasvattajalta, vaan tarjota kodin syystä tai toisesta kodittomaksi jääneelle kissalle. Löysimme Vaasan Kissatalon sivuilta hurmaavan kisun, ja sovimme tapaamisen kissatalolle parin päivän päähän. Kerroimme viestitse hieman itsestämme ja minkälaista kissaa toivoisimme – eli seurallista ja ihmisläheistä.
Maanantaina Kissatalolla tapaamisessa saimme kuulla meidän harkitsemamme kissan saaneen jo kodin. Meille ehdotettiin kuitenkin toista kissaa, joka oli sillä hetkellä kotihoidossa. Kävimme tutustumassa Kissatalon asukkaisiin ja ihastuimme yhteen neljän kuukauden ikäiseen pentuun. Hän oli hurmaava, mutta todella arka, joten halusimme käydä kotihoitopaikassa toista kissaa katsomassa ja tehdä päätös vasta sen jälkeen.
Parin päivän päästä kotihoidossa näimme ensimmäistä kertaa Fredin. Pienen alku-ujostelun jälkeen Fredi pyöri jaloissamme ja kaipasi silityksiä. Tutustuimme kissaan puolen tunnin ajan ja teimme päätöksen – tämä olisi meidän kissa. Ihastuimme Fredin luonteeseen ja ulkonäköön – meidän vapaalla kädellä piiretty kissa. Soitimme heti autoon päästyämme Kissatalolle ja sovimme noudon seuraavalle viikolle niin, että Fredi ehtisi saada samana aamuna rokotuksen, kun hakisimme sen kotiin. Kävimme viikon aikana ostamassa kissan tarvikkeet ja ruoat, jotta kaikki olisi valmiina Frediä varten.
Noutopäivänä allekirjoitimme adoptiopaperit, saimme rokotuskortin ja maksoimme luovutusmaksun. Varmistimme vielä viimeiset mieltä askarruttavat asiat Kissatalon työntekijältä, jonka jälkeen lähdimme Fredi kantokopassa ajamaan varovasti kotiin. Fredi ei syönyt koppaan laitettuja herkkuja ja oli muutenkin todella jännittynyt. Kotona se suuntasi ensimmäisenä piiloon vaaterekin alle ja myöhemmin kylppärin hyllyn alle jännittämään.
Mitä meille kuuluu nyt?
Meillä kummallakaan ei ollut hirveästi kokemusta kissoista ennen tätä. Mun lapsuudenkodissani oli kissa parin viikon ajan, mutta en muista siitä hirveästi. Lisäksi olen hoitanut kaverini kissaa lukiossa, eli kokemus on aika vähäinen. Harkitessamme kissaa googletimme kaikki mahdolliset asiat – miten kissaa hoidetaan, paljonko se maksaa, millainen lemmikki kissa on jne… Teimme paljon taustatyötä, jotta päätös olisi varmasti oikea ja osaisimme varautua oikein. Tarkoitus on kuitenkin antaa kissalle mahdollisimman hyvä koti ja elämä, eikä ottaa lemmikkiä vain omia tarpeitaan täyttämään tai viihdykkeeksi.
Elämä Fredin kanssa on mennyt yllättävän hyvin. Fredi viihtyy meillä hyvin ja on selvästi alkanut luottamaan meihin molempiin ja on oma itsensä. Fredi on seurankipeä, mutta osaa myös olla yksin. Usein se kuitenkin tulee kiehnäämään jalkoja vasten ja kellahtaa selälleen rapsutuksia odottamaan. Fredi rakastaa saalistusleikkejä sekä tutkimista, ja onkin hirveän utelias käymään kaikki talon kolot läpi. Välillä se koettelee hermoja esimerkiksi kiipeämällä sivuttain olohuoneen rahia pitkin kynsillään, mutta suurimman osan ajasta Fredi on todella suloinen ja hyvällä tavalla aktiivinen kissa.
Fredin taustoista tiedämme sen verran, että sen aiempi omistaja oli iäkäs henkilö, joka joutui luopumaan kolmesta kissastaan muuttaessaan hoitokotiin. Frediä on kuitenkin ilmeisesti kohdeltu hyvin, tai ainakaan muuhun viittaavaa käytöstä tai ongelmia ei ole ollut. Samassa talossa asuneet kaksi muuta kissaa olivat varattuja jo ennen meidän kohtaamista Fredin kanssa. Aluksi huoletti, josko Fredi kaipaisi kissaystäviään, mutta se näyttää kyllä nauttivan suuresti ollessaan huomion keskipiste. Ihana Fredi, hän tuo meidän elämäämme niin paljon iloa. <3
